Overcoming Bias
We are all living in one of the most important times in human history. We are a very large family, that, for many generations has been separated by oceans, mountains, deserts, and other geographic and spatial barriers. These separations have given us a magnificent world of different races, religions, technologies, arts, and ideologies.
Due to our rapid advancement in communication technologies, our large, spread-out family is coming together for a great reunion. It should be one of the most celebrated times in our history. But there is a problem...
Now more than ever, our natural and often subconscious inclination to choose familiarity over change is being used against us in different ways for different reasons. Due to the commercial and political nature of radio, television, and electronic social media, division and polarization amongst people is increasing. We are constantly being surrounded by polarization in the very things we should be celebrating: race, religion, technology, arts, and ideologies.
As a world people, we must be brought back together to move away from division and toward inclusion and celebration.
"Overcoming Bias" is a unique, exciting, and original look at the sources of human bias on a personal and organizational level. This presentation also covers harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and prejudice of 18 protected groups, while defining and helping the audience understand the protected groups.
The groups covered are: race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, sex/gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, requests for family leave care, requests for leave for one's own serious health condition, request for pregnancy disability leave, retaliation for reporting patient abuse, military/veteran status, and age over 40 years.
